Ryleigh: Stevie Nicks Inspired Boho Boudoir

Offering boudoir is something I’ve always wanted to do, and I’m SO excited for it.

Boudoir Photographer

I have struggled with body image for most of my adult life, and honestly, now more than ever. This past winter, one of my closest friends and I swapped boudoir sessions at a little AirBnb in Richmond. I hoped that it would help me love myself.

I always told myself boudoir wasn’t appropriate for my business. I thought it would affect my image, and that the older generation that follows me would judge me for it. Plus, I always felt that I didn’t have what it takes on either end of the camera. When I finally stepped in front of the camera myself, I realized I could do this. It changes everything when you’re proud to look at yourself in the mirror. Comparison is a killer. Loving yourself requires vulnerability, and it doesn’t happen overnight.

I get it- there’s too much against you. There’s too much telling you you’re not pretty enough, you don’t have what it takes. But… who are they?

Self Love Is A Journey

I’m just starting my journey to self love, but I CAN say that looking at these pictures of myself put a smile on my face. A simple photo session started my journey to loving my body. Loving it at any phase of my life- whether that’s with a little quarantine weight or at it’s most fit.

Don’t let anybody make you feel like you’re not beautiful. You’re not supposed to look like an influencer. Our bodies weren’t made in the same mold… and having a perfectly toned tummy, a plump booty, and glowing skin isn’t reality… it’s facetuned, photoshopped, filtered, and posed. It’s thousands of dollars and risky procedures. It’s not real, and frankly, it’s unoriginal.

Society has trained us to only love the body that’s in style- and it’s exhausting trying to keep up with it.

You have everything it takes to look sexy, girl. I PROMISE.

After I had my own boudoir session, I could not wait to figure out how to share this experience with other women. The thought of it can be scary, I know. And that’s why I wanted my own studio in my house. There are a lot of hotels/venues that don’t allow photos, and if they do, you have to pay a premium price for a limited time. I would be so stressed if I were to schedule a boudoir session for myself knowing I had a time limit at the venue. That added stress on my client did not sit right with me!

I got to work turning this downstairs spare bedroom into a studio/bedroom/office space.

The Studio

To make sure I was comfortable and confident BEHIND the camera, I asked my always willing best girl Ryleigh to model for me- and we immediately got to planning.

Ryleigh and I had VISIONS. And oh my gosh, did they come to life. One of my favorite ways to plan a photoshoot is to pick a playlist or a song, and based on the western boho vibes of the room, we knew this was going to be serving a Stevie Nicks MOMENT.

We envisioned this video, right here: https://vm.tiktok.com/JMLyUfx/

…and the rest of the session just fell right into place.

I present to you the finished product, thanks to lots of dancing, laughing, singing, and white claws.
